In 2017 a request for a ‘meaningful and relevant’ script that could empower their senior school students, connect them to their culture and help them find their place in a global world was made by the Director of BHA’s IB Theatre programme which catalysed the Rise project. An international team of artists, from the UK, Portugal and Hong Kong were inspired by the landscape, myths and history of Jeju Island, together with the issues of the 21st century’s feminist movement, to fulfill this request.
